​If you test positive for COVID-19 and close contacts

  1. ​​If you test positive for COVID-19
    • ​​Let your close contacts know (generally considered those you live with or have intimate contact with) and direct them to the close contacts BCCDC link.
    • BCCDC also defines a close contact as someone you have had 15 minutes of contact with where safety precautions were not in place or were insufficient.
    • Individuals under 18 years of age must self-isolate for 5 days regardless of vaccination status.
    • Individuals 18 years of age or older:
      • Self-isolate for 5 days AND until your symptoms improve if they are fully vaccinated.
      • Self-isolate for 10 days AND until your symptoms improve if they are not fully vaccinated.

  2. Close Contacts
    • ​Close contacts are no longer required to self-isolate if they are not experiencing symptoms and feel well regardless of vaccination status .
    • If someone in your household tests positive for COVID-19 or has symptoms you are not required to self-isolate regardless of vaccination status. You must monitor yourself for symptoms. If you feel well you can attend work and school. If you develop symptoms then you must stay home.

​Daily Health Checks and What to do when you are sick.

  1. ​Daily Health Checks
    • ​​Everyone going into a school, including staff, visitors, and students, must complete a daily health check and stay home if they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (laid out in the Ministry's document) or feel unwell.  K-12 Health Check
    • You can attend school if:
        • ​Your symptoms are consistent with a previously diagnosed health condition (ie. seasonal allergies) OR You have existing symptoms that have improved to where you feel well enough to return to regular activities
        • AND you are not required to self-isolate or your self-isolation period is over

  2. What to do when you are sick:​       Daily Health Check and What to Do When Sick
    • ​​If you do not have symptoms of COVID-19 you do not need to be tested.
    • If you have mild symptoms (symptoms that can be managed at home) of COVID-19
      • You likely do not need a test, however you can use a rapid antigen test if you have one available;
      • You must stay home and away from others until you feel well enough to return to your normal activities and you no longer have a fever.
    • If you are unsure of your symptoms you can complete the Self-assessment tool, contact your local health provider, or contact 811.
    • Testing is now recommended for the following categories when they are experiencing symptoms (see link):
      • People who are moderately to severely immunocompromised
      • People 18 years and older who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated
      • People who live or work in high-risk settings (ie. health care, first responders, long-term care facilities)
    • If you find it hard to breathe, have chest pain, can't drink anything, feel very sick call 911 or go to your local emergency department.
