Character Makes a Difference!

What are the RISE awards?

  • The RISE awards are a way to celebrate the culture of ESS.
  • They are intended to help build our school spirit and community, and to help students develop the character it takes to be active, successful and happy members of our school and community.
  • RISE stands for Respect, Integrity, Strength and Empathy.  When a student or staff member displays one or more of these characteristics at school or in the community, they can be acknowledged.

Who can be acknowledged and how?
There are two ways to acknowledge a RISE achievement:
     1. Staff can nominate a student using the RISE cards at the school.
     2. Staff, students or community members can nominate a student or staff member using the QR                 code found on this website, or posted around the school

What happens?
  • Each month we hold an assembly to acknowledge those who have received a "RISE to the SUMMIT" acknowledgment and give out some prizes to a couple of the students.

At Elkford Secondary School our primary purpose is academic achievement. We are also committed to personal, social, life skills, and citizen development. We strive to educate our students to excel in learning, to succeed in life, and to enrich our community. We are committed to nurturing responsible, well-rounded students who reach their full potential. We focus on providing a safe, caring school environment where everyone feels respected, accepted and included. Character development is an important part of our day-to-day efforts to achieve these goals.

Character Development

PictureCharacter development encourages everyone to work together to create a community of caring citizens. It is tied closely to equality, diversity and inclusion, in that it fosters respect for the dignity and humanity of all individuals and groups. It is a deliberate, day-to-day effort to nurture the universal qualities that are considered important within our local and global communities. These qualities form the basis of our relationships with one another, and of responsible citizenships.
