The City of Sparwood has a population of 4,500.  It’s mining heritage is showcased through mural displays and by the famous Terex Titan, the world’s largest dump truck. Sparwood is only a 25 minute drive from Fernie and the Fernie Alpine Resort.  The first class Sparwood Leisure Centre includes a swimming pool, curling rink, racquetball court and ice hockey rink.  In the mountains and on the rivers around Sparwood, there are excellent outdoor recreation opportunities including mountain biking, snowmobiling, hiking, canoeing, kayaking and fishing.

We have found, over the years, that Sparwood has some of our best host families!  It is a caring community that loves to welcome its new international students each year!

Sparwood Secondary School, built in 2008, is the newest and most modern school in the Southeast Kootenay School District.  International students enjoy a true Canadian experience in Sparwood, because there are smaller numbers of students from other countries.
