The City of Elkford has a population of just under 3,000 people and is located in a spectacular mountain valley about a 20 minute drive north of Sparwood. Elkford has a fun website that is worth checking out! The area around Elkford has outstanding outdoor recreation opportunities including ski and snowboard, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, mountain biking and golfing. Elkford has its own ski hill featuring 14 runs and 1,000 vertical feet of elevation change. The town itself has a swimming pool, hockey arena, curling rink, soccer fields, baseball diamonds and tennis courts.
International Students in Elkford
Each year, Elkford Secondary School hosts one or two international students who choose to study in a school where they are the only speaker of their native language. The school has so few international students that each one is special and is warmly welcomed into the school and community. We have a line up of great host families who would love to welcome a student into their own home!
Elkford would be an excellent choice for an international student looking for a Canadian cultural immersion experience and who enjoys the outdoors and a relaxed lifestyle. Our international students there participate with all our other international students in the same adventure activities offered by our program, including river rafting, an overnight trip to Banff National Park, canoeing, a ski day at the Fernie Alpine Resort, dog sledding, an overnight trip to Calgary, and an overnight camp at Rock Lake (plus other optional activities). In fact, Elkford students are so special that, for these activities, the school bus picks them up right at the front door of their house!
