​Canfor Scholarship Program 

DEADLINE:  April 18, 2024:  The scholarship program is for students who are pursuing careers in the following: Forestry, Wood Product Manufacturing, Process, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Trades (see the complete list on the application form) and Business Programs (again see the complete list on the application) Application forms can be dropped off to the counseling office before April 5, 2024.

Neil Muth Memorial Scholarship:

​DEADLINE: April 17, 2024:  The Neil Muth Memorial Scholarship was created to honour Neil Muth who valued and supported perseverance and continuous learning. He encouraged his three children to be curious, to seek their own path, and to never give up. In his role as President and CEO of Columbia Basin Trust, he was a friend, a mentor and a leader, and he inspired us all to strive for excellence.

This scholarship is for people who have triumphed over adversity and wish to pursue post-secondary education. This is an opportunity for someone to demonstrate their individual determination, future goals and self-motivation. It is evaluated on merit and not on academic achievements.

Construction, Maintenance & Allied Workers, CMAW Local 2300 Bursary:

DEADLINE:  April 25, 2024:  Construction, Maintenance & Allied Workers Local 2300 Annual Bursary Program. Bursaries of $500.00 each will be awarded to students within the School Districts of the East & West Kootenay areas who are pursuing an Apprenticeship in the trade of Carpentry/Joinery or Millwright (consideration of other trade applications will be made). The Education Committee will choose deserving applicants based on an essay submitted along with the completed application form.  Applicants are required to write a short essay between 300 – 500 words explaining why they are pursuing a career in their chosen trade of either Carpentry/Joinery or Millwright (consideration of other trade applications will be made). Applications will be accepted from graduating students who are starting their Apprenticeship as a 1st year Apprentice, or from graduating students who have completed their first year in high school through the YTT (Youth Train in Trades) and are enrolling in Level 2. The graduate must be completing high school within this calendar school year (September 2023 – June 2024). Successful applicants will receive their bursary money only after proof of registration in their trade is received.

EFMABC Bursaries:

DEADLINE:  April 30, 2024:  The Educational Facility Managers Association of British Columbia is pleased to offer five $1,000.00 bursaries to graduates of the 2023/2024 school year. Our association is comprised of administrative and management personnel of school districts who are responsible for construction, maintenance and custodial services, etc.  These bursaries are offered to secondary students completing their grade 12 year who will enter a recognized post-secondary educational institution in the 2024/2025 term.  Bursaries will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement and/or special needs.

Preference will be given to students entering the fields of engineering, architecture, or building technology.  Should there not be suitable applications received in these fields, students in other courses of study will be considered, however, all applicants MUST be dependents of school district employees in the school facilities area (i.e. Maintenance or Custodial).

Living With Scholarship Fund:

DEADLINE: April 30, 2024:  To support youth in their transition out of high school and amplify their voices in the mental health conversation, The Living With Foundation launched the Living With Scholarship Fund. This year, B.C. students can apply for a $1,000 scholarship that has no restrictions to the use of the funds. This means that any high school graduate can apply and win, whether they are pursuing post-secondary education or forging their own unique path into adulthood.  The Living With Foundation empowers everyone to become a mental health leader to improve their community’s mental wellbeing.​

United Steelworkers USW Local 9346 Scholarship (Elkview Operations):

DEADLINE:  May 1, 2024:  Offered to a son, daughter or dependent child of an hourly USW local 9346 member (Elkview Operations). The student must also be graduating grade 12 and enrolling in full time post-secondary studies at a University, College, Technical, or Vocational Institute this coming fall (Fall 2024).

BC School Sports 2023-2024 Scholarships

United Steelworkers Union Local 7884 Scholarship (Fording River Operations):

​​DEADLINE:  June 1, 2024:  The USW Union, Local 7884 (Fording River Operations) has a scholarship opportunity for dependent children of Fording River employees.  Applicants must be attending a program at University, College, or a Technical Institute.

David Ellis Scholarships:

​DEADLINE:  June 30, 2024:  Five $500 scholarships in each Canadian USW District to high school students who are children or grandchildren of USW members, to help continue their education at a post-secondary institution.  Scholarships will be awarded to high school students who create a winning essay or YouTube video about health and safety in the workplace.  Children or grandchildren of USW members who are entering post-secondary education in the fall of 2024 are eligible to apply.

USW Post Secondary Scholarships:

DEADLINE:  June 30, 2024:  Every year, the United Steelworkers union awards 22 scholarships of $1,500 each to qualified students across Canada​.  These scholarships are intended to support Steelworkers members who spend many years saving so that they or their children can pursue post-secondary education.​

Eligible applicants must be a member of the United Steelworkers, or the child* of a member in good standing *(children include biological or birth children, children by adoption and children by other, equivalent relationship), be 25 years of age or younger, and be enrolled in post-secondary education in 2024.

Applicants may be entering any year of study and may be returning to their studies after a break. USW Post-Secondary Scholarships cannot be awarded to the same applicant more than twice.

USW Indigenous Scholarships:

DEADLINE:  June 30, 2024:  We have the education of Indigenous Steelworkers and their families at heart!  The United Steelworkers is pleased to announce a new scholarship beginning in 2021 that will award six scholarships of $1,500 each to qualified Indigenous USW members and their families who are pursuing post-secondary education.

USW Indigenous Post-Secondary Scholarships are open to active or retired members of the United Steelworkers, or their children, grandchildren, or immediate family members (including by birth, adoption or by other, equivalent relationship), who self-identify as First Nations, Inuit or Métis, AND will attend a post-secondary educational institution in Canada (including a skilled trades program at a college or technical institute).  Priority will be given to applicants who live in remote regions and will attend school far from home in unfamiliar locations.  Applicants may be in any year of a program of studies. ​

Association of School T​​​ransportation Service​s of BC (ASTSBC) Scholarship:

DEADLINE:  June and December:  The Association of School Transportation Services of British Columbia (ASTSBC) will award a scholarship to eligible student(s) attending an educational facility in the Province of British Columbia for the express purpose of attaining certification as a Commercial Mechanic or Heavy Duty Mechanic.  Each successful candidate may receive up to a maximum of $7,000 over the 4 years​ of their schooling.

Construction, Maintenance & Allied Workers, Local 1​​237 Pre-Apprentice Bursary:

DEADLINE:  No Deadline Posted:  When the Construction Maintenance and Allied Workers Canada Local 1237 decided to sell their Union Hall in Dawson Creek, they donated the proceeds from the building to establish a Pre-Apprentice Bursary fund.​  There will be on average 6 $500 bursaries awarded each year.  To qualify for one of these bursaries, please see the Bursary Requirements below.

​Bursaries for Post Secondary Studies in French as a Second Language:

DEADLINE:  No Deadline Posted:  Are you interested in pursuing your post-secondary studies in French?   English-speaking Canadians enrolled in the first year of a college or university program have an opportunity to receive a $3,000 bursary to perfect their bilingualism while studying in a field of interest.
