Wild Theatre can't be held back!! The drama department was not able to proceed with the planned production of Oklahoma!, but that did not stop the cast from being creative!!
Different times call for different measures. The Wild Theatre gang were about 2/3 of the way through rehearsals of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, shutting down schools and theatres all over the world.
We wanted to do something, to have some kind of performance to share. We are leaving Oklahoma! aside for now; we'll come back to it when it's time.
We set out to create a musical theatre piece that would be fun and could bring some smiles to folks in a time that's been pretty rough. We tried to create as much of a live feel as possible. At the end of the day, film is film, but live performance was in our thoughts every step of the way.
All rehearsals took place in isolation. We filmed in two sessions to allow for as little contact and as much distance as possible. Some of the footage was taken by participants at home. Audio was recorded separately. Muchos gracias to Josh for keeping the beat for everyone!
We miss you all! It will be a wonderful day when we can all be together again. Here's to the first of what we hope will be many such projects!
