ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Welcoming Spaces, Welcome Minds to Welcome Hearts!
Kootenay Orchards Elementary School is a K-6 community of learners consisting of 217 students divided among 10 classrooms, with 20 staff members and countless parent and community volunteers.
We are a small neighbourhood catchment school where students are encouraged to be kind, safe and responsible. We believe that learning happens best when students feel connected to their school, their peers, and their community. Our dedicated staff work collaboratively to provide engaging learning experiences that support academic achievement, social-emotional well-being, creativity and physical literacy. Through classroom instruction, outdoor learning opportunities, fine arts performances, athletics, leadership activities and community partnerships, students are encouraged to discover their strengths and reach their full potential.
Kootenay Orchards is fortunate to be able to provide learning spaces that inspire our students and teachers to create, collaborate and imagine. The current building opened in 1995 but the school name "Kootenay Orchards" goes back to a single room school house that opened in the early 1900's. Today we are proud to honour our school's long history of educational excellence while looking forward to the future to support students in gaining the skills, confidence, and resilience to succeed in an ever-changing world.
