Dual Credit allows students to earn high school and post secondary credits while completing high school. Opportunities are available through Academic Dual Credit, Youth Train in Trades, Youth Work in Trades and Early Childhood Education.

Explore the options below to find a pathway that interests you.

  • Humanities and Arts
  • Science and Health
  • Technology and Engineering

When you successfully complete an eligible COTR course, you will receive four high school credits and three post secondary credits.

Youth Work in Trades allows students to begin an apprenticeship while still in high school. Students who are working with a qualified employer in a skilled trade can earn high school credits while gaining paid, on the job experience.

Students can earn up to 16 high school credits and accumulate up to 480 work based training hours toward their apprenticeship.

Youth Work in Trades is a great option for students who are already working in a trade or who are interested in combining school with hands on workplace training.

Talk to your school counsellor to find out how to register and whether your employment can count toward an apprenticeship.

Students interested in working with children can get a head start on a career in Early Childhood Education (ECE) while still in high school.

Plan Ahead

Start exploring Dual Credit opportunities early. Grade 10 or 11 is a great time to talk to your school counsellor and begin planning for grade 12.

Dual Credit courses must be included in your school plan before grade 12, and schools must have Dual Credit courses entered in MyEducation BC in September for funding purposes.

Youth Train in Trades seats can fill quickly, and some programs may include an interview as part of the admission process. Planning ahead will give you the best opportunity to access the program or courses that interest you.

Some Dual Credit opportunities may also be available to students in grade 10 or 11.
