Indigenous Education
Marie Dawson is Parkland Middle School’s full time Indigenous Education Support Worker. It is vital that Indigenous Education be culturally safe and appropriate, that acknowledges and respects Indigenous cultures, values, and ways of being and knowing. Creating a learning environment where Indigenous learners feel safe, valued, and supported.
Supports and Services:
- Student Advocacy
- Communication between students, families and teachers
- A place to eat lunch
- Elders in Residence Support
- Tutoring
- Connection to community
- Indigenous Student Leadership Group
- Community cultural events and connection
- Referrals to outside agency and supports
- Daily snacks, school supplies, & hygiene supplies
