Cranbrook with Fisher Peak
The City of Cranbrook (population 25,000) is the main city in our region, servicing a surrounding population of about 45,000. Most visitors to Cranbrook are pleasantly surprised by how big the city seems, compared to the size of its population! It offers most of the services found in much larger cities including: an international airport, shopping malls, block stores, the College of the Rockies, city buses, movie theatres, fitness gyms, a new 4,500 seat ice hockey arena, an aquatic centre and other excellent recreation facilities. International students regularly join the Triton Swim Club, Cranbrook Skating Club, Cranbrook Minor Hockey, Cranbrook Minor Baseball, men's soccer league and other sports organizations.
Cultural facilities and organizations include the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel, Fort Steele Heritage Town, the Key City Performing Arts Theatre, the Symphony of the Kootenays, Cranbrook Community Theatre and several dance studios.
Most of our international students study in Cranbrook because the larger city offers more things to do and better shopping opportunities. Also, Mount Baker Secondary School, the largest high school in our School District, offers a greater variety of courses, more sports teams, and better support for students, including an English as a Second Language program.

Ski and Snowboard Bus
International students in Cranbrook ski and snowboard at the excellent Kimberley Alpine Resort, which is a 25 minute drive from the city. To make the trip as easy as possible, we run a special ski bus from Cranbrook to and from the ski hill on most weekend and vacation days during the ski season. Typically, we offer about 45 bus trips per season, and host families are able to provide rides on other days if necessary.
