Every year, with the generous help of the Fernie Fire Department and many parent and community volunteers, our primary students participate in the Bike Roadeo where they learn about bike safety and take time to practice their biking skills. This year, Mr. Hopkins taught the students that bikes are like cars on the road; they need to travel single file and signal to other bikes and pedestrians when they are turning. After reviewing the hand signals in the classroom, the students had a chance to practice them on the Bike Roadeo course. The students also learned about being safe: wearing a helmet, proper footwear and wearing clothes that don't dangle. Volunteer bike mechanics gave every bike a maintenance check over before the students ventured on to the course with their bike for some biking fun!
