Fernie Secondary School

Fernie Secondary Jazz Band meets once a week after school and is a space to further hone the skills of students with prior experience playing their instrument. Jazz Band plays a wide range of upbeat tunes and genres, including rock fusion like Chicago, Latin fusion like Santana, funk like Herbie Hancock, and swing legends like Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, and Glenn Miller. Every week there are lots of laughs and lots of music! 

In March 2025, Fernie Secondary Jazz Band performed at the Yardbird Suite in Edmonton, Alberta. They played three contrasting pieces: Spring's Awakening, Oye Como Va, and Zoot Suit Riot. The Jazz Band travels every spring to perform at a music festival, participate in workshops, and watch professional bands. The trips are always memorable, fun, and a great way to connect with their fellow musicians!
