Youth Care Worker
Youth Care Worker Support
Fernie Secondary School
Lisa Bax & Sherry Bylsma
We have two youth care workers to support our students with their everyday needs and to provide social-emotional support to students. Youth Care Worker (YCW) services are accessed through our Learning Services Department or through our administrators and school-based team. Students can also simply reach out to one of our YCWs and self-refer. We encourage parents to let us know if they feel their child would benefit from having someone as their "go-to" non-academic, social-emotional support here at school!
Some of the types of support our YCWs provide include:
- fostering and facilitating self- and co-regulation
- co-facilitating small group sessions with counselling staff and community-based supports
- connecting student/families with community and school supports
- providing transportation for students who are on our caseload (appointments, work placements, etc.)
- connecting students with food programs and nutritional supports
- supporting students with day-to-day needs on an individual basis
Please feel free to reach out to discuss other available supports.
